During a CoreTherm® treatment, parts of the prostate gland are heated using microwaves. The heat causes prostate cells to die. After the treatment, the body naturally removes the dead tissue, causing the prostate to shrink. Symptom improvement occurs gradually over the first few months following the treatment.

  • The procedure is performed during a regular outpatient visit. The treatment itself takes less than 15 minutes. You can go home right after and do not need to stay overnight.
  • Before the treatment begins, local anesthesia is administered to the urethra and the prostate gland via a specialized catheter inserted through the urethra. No general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia is required.
  • The treatment is carried out using a treatment catheter inserted into the urethra, containing a microwave antenna.
  • After a CoreTherm® treatment, the urethra must temporarily be relieved with a urinary catheter for approximately 3-6 weeks.
  • Symptom improvement occurs gradually over the first few months following the treatment. After 4-6 months, the vast majority of patients experience significant relief from their symptoms.
